Follicular Unit Extraction, best known as FUE, is a hair restoration method designed to allow the patient to keep the donor hair very short with no visible scarring. Besides this appealing benefit, FUE is less invasive – no knife, no scalpel and no stiches. Follicular unit extraction is usually the most sought after alternative to traditional follicular unit transplant procedure because of its non-invasive nature.
Our doctors have a long, established track record of excellence and consistent results.
Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE) procedure
During the FUE procedure, the doctor uses an instrument to make a small, circular incision in the skin around a follicular unit, splitting it from the surrounding tissue. The unit is then extracted directly from the scalp, leaving a small open hole.
This process is repeated until the doctor has harvested enough follicular units to cover the hair loss region. The donor incision, approximately 1mm in size, can heal over the course of seven to ten days, leaving minimal scars buried in the donor area at the back and sides of the scalp.
Before the grafts are harvested, small “recipient sites” are made in the balding area of the scalp using a refined needlepoint instrument. The follicular units are then implanted into the hair loss area where they will grow into natural hair-producing follicles.
